This is like a fifth of the reason you go to EDC. The other four parts are obviously to see and be seen. In between gawking at the peeps who went all out and rocked the look and letting others snap your pic as they ask you where you got your glitter, hitting up a set by an artist you know or are just discovering is one of the hottest things you can do. You’ll be able to say you were there and you fell into the crowd as they swayed. You already know there’s nothing quite like that.
Those big name DJs
Big names are always at EDC. They roll in like the drop beat you know is coming and you can’t wait to jump to. You can check out the full list on our EDC page. But you can also pretty much guess that Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Alesso, Calvin Harris, Krewella, Steve Angello, Adventure Club and all your best Vegas artists will be there. We’re so psyched to say that Moby, Carl Cox and John Digweed will kick it too. For serious, if you don’t melt in Digweed’s set then we probably can’t be friends anymore. Sorry not sorry. The big names are the best of the best, and they’re the ones who’ve worked so hard to get EDM to where it is today. Give them all the love they deserve. Just don’t forget about the newcomers.
Artists we just really like and think you should know about
The big names only make up so much of the list. Pulling their way up from the hotspots only diehards know about, the rising stars need just as much attention. They say the cream rises, but sometimes it needs a shout out to be inspired. So check out some of these artists before, during and after EDC so you know what truly inspiring EDM sounds like.
Seven Lions — Trancy, beautiful pop EDM with deep drops, gorgeous refrains and sensual guest vocals.
Alison Wonderland – The next Aussie it-girl bumping waves all her own.
Tokimonsta – Eclectic and expansive, bringing worldwide beats to arrangements beyond the classic.
Vena Cava – The EDM you want before and while you make out with a stranger.
The Upbeats – Controlled chaos that hits the ears like the best hammer and saw ever.
Juliet Fox – Hot, deep house taking you back to your first dance in the dark of the night.
Roaming performers you’ll run to adore
It can sometimes be difficult to distinguish between the roaming performers and the average raver at EDC. The game’s been bumped up so high that the average arty tourist can pass for entertainment. But that tourist probably isn’t a trained performer. You’ll see them. You’ll love them. EDC’s roaming entertainers light up the grounds like the fireworks blasting the night skies. You might see something like a clown. You’ll almost certainly see some ladies you’ll want a thousand pictures with. And with all those pictures you’ll remember that you’ll never see anything else like these artists outside of EDC. They’re specially created for each year’s festival, so see them while you can and never forget them.
Art is its own performance
They’re always super hush about the designs and themes for the year. Part of the awe is in the surprise and delight. You can bet that animals will be present. Past festivals have had massive metal owls, octopi, caterpillars and snakes. You can also pretty much assume that at least some of them are going to shoot fire; because if you’re gonna build a giant metal creature you just have to make it shoot fire. They’re the spectacles that take your experience from interesting to epic. And they make an awesome shot to prove to your friends that you were there and make them totally jelly that they didn’t come with you when they had the chance.
