You can explore 8.5 acres of underwater wreckage at Mermet Springs!

Scuba diving by nature is pretty darn adventurous. Well, Mermet Springs Scuba Diving in Illinois have managed to make underwater adventure even more fun, by submerging nearly 15 different sunken wreckages for you to find and explore!

The Midwest might not be the first place that pops into your head when you think about scuba diving, but Mermet Springs is trying to change that. Surrounded by a picturesque wooded backdrop, Illinois' favorite scuba full-service dive and training site is an 8.5 acre spring-fed quarry, perfect for some underwater adventure.

Aside from the dive training facilities, which are both above and below water, Marmet's most famous feature is the badass underwater wonderland where divers get to explore a whole bunch of sunken planes, boats, firetrucks, buses… heck, they even have a 45,000 pound train car.

All of the underwater treasures are located at different depths and different locations, so it’s up to you to get out there find them. There’s a Boeing 727, a railroad coal car, a submarine, an ambulance, a motorcycle, 2 small aircrafts, an underwater petting zoo, and the list goes on and on.

Many of the sunken attractions are accessible, so divers can actually swim into and through them to get a better look. In fact, you’re probably going to want to bring your waterproof camera because there's a photo-op around every corner.

Mermet also offers underwater geocaching, which sends divers off on a treasure hunting adventure using their GPS dive computers. Each of the cashes are hidden throughout the quarry, some are even in and around the wreckage itself.

If you’re just learning to dive don’t worry, they’ve got loads of training classes that can teach any scuba noob how to become a pro. Grab your snorkel and head to Mermet Springs Scuba Diving, and get ready to spend the day having the coolest underwater adventures that you can have in America!
